Womens Bay service area board to review fire and road budget update on Nov. 3
The Womens Bay fire department has about $1.2 million in reserve, more than twice what the Kodiak Island Borough budgeted for it this year, according to a budget update the Womens Bay Service Area Board will get Nov. 3.
The board develops budgets and work plans for the service area's fire department and road service and makes recommendations to the Borough Assembly. Its agenda lists two figures for each, under a heading for money spent to date and fund balance as of Oct. 8. Read in that order, the fire department had spent 35% of this year's budget and had $1,192,187 in its fund balance. Road service had spent 5% and had $485,446.
The borough's budget for the fiscal year that began July 1 gives the fire department $453,100, up from $323,100 last year, and road service $419,500, up from $372,000.
The agenda doesn't explain the balances. It also lists two fire department items as old business, stipends and a utility vehicle, with no details.
The board meets at 5:30 pm at the Womens Bay Fire Hall and takes public comment at the start and end of the meeting.
