Coho retention closes Wednesday on Little Susitna and Susitna drainages
Anglers may not keep coho salmon 16 inches or longer in the Little Susitna and Susitna river drainages from 12:01 a.m. Wednesday through the end of the year. Bait remains prohibited in both drainages; only artificial lures are allowed.
The Little Susitna coho escapement goal is 9,200 to 17,700 fish. As of Monday, 1,385 had passed the weir, escapement projected at 2,104, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game said.
A Wasilla man, 40, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Saturday for sport fishing for salmon in waters closed to that species on the Little Susitna River, upstream of the Parks Highway bridge, according to a Department of Public Safety dispatch posted Sunday. Fish and Game has closed flowing waters upstream of the Parks Highway to sport fishing for salmon, the rule at issue Saturday. The citation carries an optional court appearance through Palmer Court. The charge is an accusation; he is presumed innocent.
