Up to 2.75 inches of rain forecast for Ketchikan and Annette Island on Monday
Ketchikan and Annette Island are forecast to receive up to 2.75 inches of rain Monday, the National Weather Service in Juneau warned Friday afternoon, as a series of fronts moves through the southern panhandle heading into the holiday weekend.
The special weather statement, issued at 2:59 p.m. AKDT Friday, covers Prince of Wales Island, Ketchikan Gateway Borough and Annette Island. The heaviest rain is tied to a second front pushing into the region Monday afternoon through Monday night. NWS Juneau says rain rates could reach 0.10 to 0.15 inches per hour during that band, with the highest confidence for those rates centered on Annette Island and Ketchikan. Prince of Wales Island is forecast to receive 1 to 2 inches Monday. Localized areas across the covered region may see either higher or lower amounts due to terrain influence.
The system is expected to begin arriving Sunday night and last through the day Monday. NWS Juneau said it will issue updates as confidence increases on timing and totals ahead of that onset.
"Rainfall totals for Monday are expected to be between 1.75 and 2.75 inches in 24 hours for Annette Island and Ketchikan, and between 1.00 and 2.00 inches in 24 hours for Prince of Wales Island," the agency said. "Additional information will be provided as confidence increases on event timing and precipitation totals as it gets closer to Sunday night."
The statement expires at 11 p.m. Friday.
