Unalaska restores Tutiakoff Park's tax exemption for 2026, its last year

Tutiakoff Park is tax-exempt again, and for the last time: the city's lease expired June 30, so the parcel becomes taxable in 2027.

The Unalaska City Council adopted Resolution 2026-48 on its consent agenda Tuesday, August 11, restoring exempt status to Parcel 03-07-823, owned by the Board of Global Ministries (United Methodist Church) and assessed at $441,800.

The parcel was exempt for years because of the lease, but the city's contracted assessor identified it as land only and, the clerk's memo says, was unaware of it. Because the lease was active on January 1, 2026, it still qualified.

The council certified the 2026 rolls on May 26, making this a supplemental correction. "The City will realize a reduction in property tax revenue of $4,638.90," City Clerk Estkarlen P. Magdaong wrote.

That is against a taxable roll of about $605 million, of $987 million assessed and $382 million exempt.
