Fiber easement for four Koyukuk River villages grows to 96 acres, and comments close Oct. 12

Comments close Oct. 12 on a fiber optic line that would cross 96.4 acres to bring high-speed internet to four Koyukuk River villages.

Tanana Chiefs Conference filed an amended application for a public utility easement, a right to cross state land, according to a public notice published Thursday in Alaska Online Public Notices. Case ADL 422774 is under review by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources' Division of Mining, Land and Water through its Northern Regional Land Office. The easement would serve the Koyukuk River communities of Hughes, Allakaket, Alatna and Evansville.

The original notice, issued Feb. 12, described segments totaling roughly 132,000 feet at a requested width of about 20 feet. That amounts to some 60.6 acres of state land. Comments on that application closed March 16. The amended route runs 209,990 feet. The notice calls it the second "to encompass newly acquired state land." The requested term is "until no longer needed."
