Tanana Chiefs Conference urges no vote on Ballot Measure 2
Tanana Chiefs Conference is encouraging people to vote no on Ballot Measure 2, which would repeal Alaska's open primary and ranked-choice voting systems.
Chief/Chairman Sharon Hildebrand made the request in her October "Letter from the Chief," dated Oct. 1 and addressed to tribal leaders and tribal members. "In August, our Executive Board passed a resolution supporting ranked choice voting," Hildebrand wrote. "We are encouraging people to vote no on this measure to keep ranked choice voting."
TCC describes itself as representing 42 member tribes.
The measure is on the Nov. 3 general election ballot. The state's official public notice describes it as an act to repeal the nonpartisan and open top-four primary election system and the ranked-choice general election system, reestablish a partisan political primary and special runoff elections, and repeal and amend independent expenditure group requirements, the rules for groups that spend independently of candidates.
