State tells Alaska communities: check for unclaimed assistance payments

The state has a message for Alaska's cities and boroughs: some of you have money sitting here unclaimed.

Communities may still be owed prior-year Community Assistance Program payments, the Division of Community and Regional Affairs says — "Now is a good time to look" — and collecting takes uploading the required documents to the state's grants system. FY25 payments are finalized, with remaining eligible communities paid as they qualify.

The next round is coming, too. FY27 award notifications start July 29 by email, and accepting takes one click in the grants system. From there, payment depends entirely on paperwork: boroughs and cities need an FY27 budget passed by ordinance plus an FY25 audit or certified financial statement with a resolution — second-class cities can use the certified statement unless an audit has been triggered.
