All state offices in Nome will release employees at noon Friday because of a citywide power outage, the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities said.

The release includes the Nome State Office Building. Employees who can telework are expected to keep working unless their supervisors approve otherwise.

Workers who protect the health and safety of Alaskans must stay on the job unless they have approved leave. That includes certain staff in the Departments of Public Safety, Corrections and Family and Community Services and other 24-hour services.

The state said it will update alaska.gov periodically through the day and told employees to check the site regularly.

The notice did not say what caused the outage or when power would return.

The National Weather Service has a blizzard warning in effect for the Southern Seward Peninsula Coast from 4 am Friday until 1 am Saturday.

State closure alerts move to a new system Nov. 1. Alaska News previously reported that current subscribers must sign up again to keep receiving notices like this one.
