Seward Lagoon opens youth-only king salmon season through June 30
King salmon are being caught at the mouth of the Seward Lagoon outfall stream, and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game has opened the lagoon and its outfall stream to a youth-only king salmon fishery from June 17 through June 30. The fishery is open to youth anglers only, with one hook (single or treble) per line permitted and bait allowed. Those rules differ from the nearby freshwater section of Resurrection River up to Nash Road, which opened to salmon fishing June 16 and allows only unbaited, single-hook artificial lures or flies.
The Seward Lagoon youth-only season is part of the agency's broader June 18 North Gulf Coast/Resurrection Bay fishing report, covering salt and fresh waters from Gore Point to Cape Fairfield.
"King salmon are being caught at the mouth of the Seward lagoon outflow stream," said Brittany Blain-Roth, area management biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's Sport Fish Division. "Try fishing the rising and falling tide with spinners and spoons. The youth-only King salmon fishery runs June 17 – 30 in the Seward Lagoon and outflow stream."
Blain-Roth can be reached at (907) 267-2186 or [email protected]. The youth-only king salmon season closes June 30.
