Railbelt Transmission Organization sets two more closed subcommittee meetings in August

The Railbelt Transmission Organization has scheduled two more subcommittee meetings that the public may not attend, on Aug. 5 and Aug. 6. The notices list no agenda for either session.

The Technical Subcommittee meets at 8 a.m. Aug. 5. The Finance Subcommittee meets at 3 p.m. the next day. Both sessions run by teleconference through the Alaska Energy Authority office at 813 W. Northern Lights Blvd. in Anchorage. RTO bylaws exempt subcommittee meetings from the organization's open meeting provisions, so neither session is open to the public. The Technical Subcommittee was also scheduled to meet Wednesday morning under the same terms.

Background on the Tariff

House Bill 307, passed in 2024, created the organization to administer a single open access transmission tariff for the Railbelt, which holds about 75% of Alaska's population. The RTO filed that tariff with the Regulatory Commission of Alaska on July 1, 2025. Railbelt utilities are required to pass commission-approved transmission costs through to their customers.
