Peltola leads Sullivan by five points in unofficial Alaska primary summary

Mary Peltola outpolled Sen. Dan Sullivan by more than five points in Alaska's Aug. 18 primary, according to the state Division of Elections' Election Summary Report. Peltola took 48.1% and Sullivan 42.7%. Both advanced from the top-four primary to the Nov. 3 general election, which will be decided by ranked choice voting.

The division labels the report unofficial and lists 401 of 403 precincts reporting. Turnout was 22.22%, or 133,725 ballots cast out of 601,906 registered voters.

A chatbot panel tracked by @votingmonitor had the order reversed, picking Sullivan at 52.5% and Peltola at 45.8%. That overshot Sullivan's actual share by 9.8 points.

Sullivan has held the seat since 2015. Peltola served as Alaska's at-large U.S. representative from 2022 to 2025. Earlier Alaska News coverage noted both candidates led their field. Further ballot counts are scheduled for Aug. 25 and Aug. 28.
