Parks Highway opens to free-flow traffic between MP 322 and 325
Drivers on the Parks Highway between Milepost 322 and 325 no longer face construction traffic control. The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities said in its Northern Region construction update that a temporary crossing over the highway is complete and the segment is open to free-flow traffic.
The crossing carries articulated haul units over the highway instead of across it. Granite Construction, awarded the Parks Highway MP 315-325 Reconstruction project by the department, said the crossing allows traffic "to flow unimpeded through the project," eliminating the need for traffic control operations.
Crews continue placing rock embankment backfill between Stations 1525+00 and 1540+00. The department advises motorists to watch for crews and equipment in the area Monday through Saturday.
The work is part of a realignment that reduces curves and adds truck lanes between Milepost 322 and 325. An earlier Alaska News article on the corridor reported that reconstruction between Milepost 319 and 325 ran 24-hour flagging and pilot car operations with active blasting through the Nenana Canyon area.
Work continues on adjoining segment
Those conditions have not ended everywhere. On the adjoining MP 319-322 project, a speed reduction remains in effect, and traffic is still routed through temporary diversions. Granite has said substantial completion is anticipated in the third quarter of 2028.
The department directs travelers to Alaska 511 for current road conditions and travel advisories.
