NIH awards Anchorage's Olgoonik $524,876 for a Building 2 office renovation

The National Institutes of Health has awarded Anchorage-based Olgoonik General, LLC $524,876 for a design-build renovation, one contract covering design and construction, of the fourth floor of Building 2, which houses the NIH Office of the Director. The scope includes extending walls, adding a kitchenette and replacing doors. Contract 75N99026C00026 sets a performance period beginning Monday, Sept. 7, and running through July 16, 2027; the award record lists that date as the start of work, not when the contract was signed.

Olgoonik General is a subsidiary of an Alaska Native corporation, registered at 2550 Denali St. in Anchorage and certified under the Small Business Administration's 8(a) program, a set-aside reserving contracts for disadvantaged firms, which Congress opened to Native corporations and tribes in 1986.

The record shows NIH made the award sole source, going to one company rather than taking bids, with a single offer. The work is in Bethesda, Maryland, not Alaska.

Olgoonik's recent NIH work includes an $781,731 rooftop HVAC replacement at the agency's Bethesda, Maryland, campus, awarded in August on an 8(a) sole-source basis. Alaska News has previously reported three additional NIH awards to the company totaling $5,131,614, issued between Sept. 1 and Sept. 7.

The company holds about $136.5 million across 50 federal awards, including NIH contracts at Bethesda above $9 million. This renovation is among its smallest.
