National political money registered on both sides of Alaska's governor's race this week, with the Democratic Governors Association and a new Republican-aligned PAC each filing with the Alaska Public Offices Commission for the Nov. 3 general election.

The Democratic Governors Association, based in Washington, D.C., stated its purpose on the form: "Promote the election of Democratic governors and other Democratic candidates and oppose the election of Republican governors and other Republican candidates." It has not previously registered in Alaska. Meghan Meehan-Draper is listed as chair and Kaitlyn Unger as treasurer; Unger signed as chief financial officer and named Amalgamated Bank in New York as the campaign depository.

A second group, Forward Frontier, also registered this week as a Juneau-based independent expenditure group, naming the same bank and listing the same Washington phone number as the DGA. Andrew Whalen is its chair and treasurer.

On the Republican side, Kodiak PAC registered as an independent expenditure group whose purpose is supporting the election of a Republican governor. The form asks groups to name any candidate who will receive more than a third of their spending; Kodiak PAC entered N/A. Three of the four tickets on the ballot are Republican. Casey Phillips is listed as chair and Paul Kilgore as treasurer, both at an Anchorage address. The group's depository is Chain Bridge Bank in McLean, Virginia, and the filing was submitted by counsel Brittany Hausle.

A registration form discloses no spending, and none of the three groups has filed an expenditure report. Alaska places no limit on contributions to independent expenditure groups, but requires them to identify the true source of any contribution over $2,000 within 24 hours, report expenditures within 10 days, and report any spending over $250 within 24 hours during the final nine days before the election.

Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins, a Democrat, faces Republicans Dave Bronson, Treg Taylor and Bernadette Wilson on the ranked-choice ballot. Gov. Mike Dunleavy is term-limited.
