MEA opens lease search for former Boys & Girls Club site in Eagle River
Matanuska Electric Association is looking for a nonprofit to take over a building in downtown Eagle River that housed the Boys & Girls Club for many years, offering the space at a significantly reduced lease rate.
The building at 11700 Old Glenn Highway previously served as the home of the Boys & Girls Club, providing programs and services to local youth and families. MEA is seeking a nonprofit partner to continue serving the Eagle River community. The cooperative has not stated the specific lease rate in its public announcement.
"Matanuska Electric Association is inviting qualified nonprofit organizations to apply for a unique opportunity to lease and utilize a community facility located in the heart of downtown Eagle River," the cooperative said in its announcement.
MEA says it wants a tenant that provides direct, high-impact services to Eagle River residents, fosters community engagement, and maintains a welcoming presence in the downtown corridor. The cooperative says eligible tenants should align with its values of stewardship and community service. Eligible uses include youth programs, food assistance, educational activities, and office space. The property includes outdoor space and parking.
As a member-owned electric cooperative, MEA says it is committed to supporting the communities it serves and is offering the building at a reduced rate to help maximize community benefit rather than generate market-rate revenue.
How to Apply
A public building tour is scheduled for Monday, July 20, at 10 a.m. at the Old Glenn Highway address. MEA representatives will be on site to answer questions about lease terms and the application process. Proposals are due by Friday, July 31, at 5 p.m. and must be emailed to [email protected].
Applicants must submit a letter of intent covering their organization's mission, proposed use of the facility, financial viability and supporting financial documentation, estimated community impact and number of residents served, and proof of nonprofit status. A selection committee will review submissions with the goal of identifying an organization that can maximize the facility's benefit to the Eagle River community.
