Ketchikan council backs $275,000 state grant bid for Bar Harbor piles
Ketchikan Port and Harbors staff plan to replace aging piles and electrical pedestals at Bar Harbor, a $550,000 project. The Ketchikan City Council approved Resolution No. 26-3035 on Sept. 3 on its consent agenda, authorizing a grant application for the work.
Councilmember Abby Bradberry moved approval. Councilmember Jack Finnegan seconded. The motion passed 6-0, with one seat vacant. Riley Gass, Janalee Gage, Judy Zenge and Dick Coose also voted yes.
The application goes to the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities' Municipal Harbor Facility Grants Program, which matches municipal harbor funding 50-50. The state listing shows a $275,000 request and a $275,000 city match. The fiscal year 2028 call for projects closed Aug. 19, before the council vote, and the state listing already includes Ketchikan's request.
The council separately accepted $6.875 million in state money to replace Bar Harbor floats 7 and 8 and rebuild the Mountain Point boat launch, as Alaska News previously covered.
