State Department's $1 million order to Juneau's HunaTek could run to $6 million

The State Department placed a $1,038,213 delivery order with HunaTek System Solutions LLC of Juneau on Aug. 29, the first year of an assignment that could reach $5,976,640 by 2031. The order covers "WHA staffing support services" for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, running through Aug. 29, 2027, according to USAspending.gov.

No one competed for it. The record lists the order as not available for competition, from only one source. It draws on a staffing vehicle the department awarded HunaTek in November 2022 as an 8(a) sole source, on a single offer, with a $15 million ceiling. The company already holds a $9.4 million order for Bureau of African Affairs support on the same vehicle.

HunaTek operates from 9301 Glacier Highway and is owned by Huna Totem Corporation, an Alaska Native corporation formed under ANCSA. The federal record tags it an 8(a) participant and an Alaska Native corporation owned firm.

Its website says its 8(a) entities "support critical federal priorities while helping generate long-term economic benefits for Alaska Native shareholders and communities."
