North Pole Democrat Hunt files for Alaska State Senate District Q
William L. Hunt filed as a Democrat for Alaska State Senate District Q. The 69-year-old retired state employee from North Pole is running on what he calls a 25-year plan for Alaska.
"Alaskans are being served by a system that often focuses on short term politics instead of long term results," Hunt stated. "Too many decisions are made for the next election cycle rather than the next generation. I am not running to be part of that system. I am running to help change how it works."
Hunt has lived in Alaska for 46 years. He worked as a state employee and served as a union steward, chapter president, and administrative representative on a state board. He is a member of the ASEA Local 52 retiree chapter and community organizer with Santa's Helpers, serving Interior Alaska families.
His platform focuses on reducing the cost of living, improving healthcare access, strengthening Social Security, investing in infrastructure and energy reliability, and preparing Alaska's workforce for automation and artificial intelligence. Hunt emphasized support for seniors, working families, small businesses, and rural communities.
"Alaska faces unique challenges. High energy cost, limited infrastructure, workforce shortages and access to services in rural communities require practical, Alaska focused solutions," Hunt said. "We need leaders in Juneau who understand these challenges and are willing to work together to solve them."
Hunt said the state needs a long-term strategy for artificial intelligence and automation. "We must also prepare for the future. Artificial intelligence, automation and changing industries will affect jobs, education, healthcare and our economy," Hunt stated. "We need a long term strategy to ensure our children and grandchildren are prepared for what lies ahead."
Hunt said he will represent all Alaskans regardless of political party. "I believe we need leadership that brings people together, not pushes them apart," he said.
The candidate statement was provided and paid for by the candidate in accordance with Alaska Statutes 15.58.030 and 6 AAC 25.690. The views expressed are from the candidate and not endorsed by the Division of Elections.
