Granite Fire near Delta Junction reaches 100% containment
The Granite Fire is fully contained, but crews remain on scene and a Temporary Flight Restriction is still in effect over the 36-acre blaze 17 miles southeast of Delta Junction.
The Alaska Division of Forestry and Fire Protection announced 100% containment Saturday, crediting the TCC Crew, Southwest 1 Crew, and Clackamas Crew. A thermal detection drone flew over the area Saturday to locate remaining heat sources. Crews are working to extinguish isolated hot spots and remove equipment no longer needed, including hose lines and water tenders.
A Temporary Flight Restriction remains in effect over the fire area. Pilots operating near the site should check current notices before flying.
The fire stood at 90% containment as recently as Friday. An earlier division morning roundup from June 22 listed 51 personnel on scene holding the fire within its footprint.
Saturday's update is the final scheduled report on the Granite Fire from the division, along with the Shaw and Pogo fires, unless significant activity occurs. The Shaw Fire, located south of Mile 27 on Pogo Mine Road, remains at 1,428 acres and is being monitored. The Pogo Fire, located approximately 2 miles north of Mile 27 on Pogo Mine Road, remains at 419 acres and is also under monitoring. New information will be posted to AKFireInfo.com.
Burn permits remain suspended in the Tok and Delta Fire Prevention Areas under a June 4 division order, due to dry conditions and warm temperatures. Debris burning, lawn burning, and burn barrels are prohibited. Cooking and warming fires are still allowed with extreme caution.
