Federal EHR Deployment at Alaska VA Healthcare System

📍 Anchorage, Alaska

About this event

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has implemented critical updates to its Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, most notably the integration of the Individual Longitudinal Exposure Record (ILER). Developed in partnership with the Department of War, the ILER provides a comprehensive electronic history of a service member's occupational and environmental health exposures. This integration allows VA clinicians to access exposure data directly within the EHR, streamlining clinical decision-making and the processing of disability claims. In addition to the ILER integration, the VA successfully deployed six other capability and interface updates designed to enhance system usability and functionality. These improvements are intended to reduce the administrative burden on staff by minimizing the need to toggle between standalone applications. The Federal EHR system is currently operational across 10 VA Medical Centers and 55 clinics, providing services to over 408,000 Veterans. The VA has outlined an accelerated deployment schedule for the remainder of 2026, with upcoming rollouts scheduled for June, August, and October at various medical centers across Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and Alaska.
