A sign points voters to the polling place at Midtown Mall in Anchorage on Monday, the first day of early voting for the Nov. 3 general election.
Early voting has begun in Alaska. Here's what's on the ballot and how to vote.
Alaskans began voting Monday in an election that will choose a new governor, decide a close U.S. Senate race and settle, for a second time, whether the state keeps ranked-choice voting.
Early voting runs through Nov. 2. On Election Day, Nov. 3, polls are open 7 am to 8 pm.
Here's what to know.
Where can I vote early?
The Division of Elections runs 10 early voting sites, open weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm:
Anchorage: Midtown Mall and City Hall
Eagle River: Eagle River Town Center
Mat-Su: Menard Sports Center in Wasilla and the borough building in Palmer
Kenai, Fairbanks and Nome: the regional elections offices
Juneau: the State Office Building and the elections office at Mendenhall Mall

Six of them, Midtown Mall, Menard and the offices in Kenai, Fairbanks, Nome and Mendenhall Mall, are also open weekends, 10 am to 4 pm Saturdays and noon to 4 pm Sundays.
Ballots cast at early voting sites through Oct. 29 are counted on election night.
Many other communities have voting sites too, each with its own schedule. Sitka, Homer and Ketchikan open Tuesday. Shageluk votes for two hours on Friday. The division lists every site and its hours on its voting locations page.
At those sites, you seal your ballot in an envelope, and it's counted once election officials confirm you're eligible. That can take until Nov. 18.
In 10 small communities in western and Southwest Alaska, voters can now vote in person on Election Day too, Alaska News reported.
What's on the ballot?
Governor: Democrat Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins and Republicans Dave Bronson, Treg Taylor and Bernadette Wilson are running to replace Gov. Mike Dunleavy, who is term-limited.
U.S. Senate: Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan faces Democrat Mary Peltola. Republican Gerald Heikes and Daniel J. Sullivan Jr., a Petersburg man who is no relation to the senator, are also running.
U.S. House: Republican Rep. Nick Begich faces Bill Hill, who is running as a nonpartisan, along with Democrat Eric Hafner and Libertarian Jim McDermott.
In every race for office, you can rank as many or as few candidates as you like.
Ballot Measure 2 would end ranked-choice voting and the open primary and bring back party primaries. A repeal failed by 743 votes in 2024.
Ballot Measure 3 would say in state law that "only" U.S. citizens may vote. Its official summary says the requirements to vote would not change.
Further down the ballot, depending on where you live, are state House and Senate races and judges up for retention. Mat-Su and Kenai Peninsula Borough voters also have borough elections. You can find your sample ballot here.
What do I need to bring?
One form of ID. A driver's license, state ID, passport or voter card works, and so does a hunting or fishing license or a current utility bill, bank statement or paycheck with your name and address.
If you don't have ID, you can still cast a questioned ballot.
Can I still vote by mail?
Yes, if you apply by Saturday, Oct. 24. You can ask for a ballot by fax or online until 5 pm Nov. 2.
Mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day and arrive by Nov. 13. They still need a witness signature. A bill that would have let voters track their ballots online and fix envelope mistakes was vetoed, and the Legislature fell two votes short of overriding it.
When will we know who won?
Election night results will show only voters' first choices. Counting has to finish by Nov. 18. In any race where no one has a majority, the ranked-choice rounds come after that.
