DNR opens comment on three placer mining permit applications

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources received three placer mining permit applications between June 1 and June 3 for operations in the Yentna and Valdez Creek mining districts.

Two applications target sites in the Yentna Mining District near Trapper Creek. APMA A20262971 proposes new operations on Long Creek. APMA A20253040 Amendment #1 seeks to modify an existing permit for Cottonwood Creek. A third application, APMA A20263041, covers Grog Creek in the Valdez Creek Mining District near Cantwell.

Each application uses the state's consolidated APMA process. That process bundles land-use, operations, and reclamation approvals into a single permit. DNR issued a Notice to the Public and Request for Information for each application, opening public comment periods.

After reviewing comments, DNR may approve, deny, or issue authorizations with conditions to meet land-use, reclamation, and environmental requirements.

Written comments and requests to view full application packets may be submitted to DNR during the public comment period.
