DNR proposes four noncompetitive land sales to state housing agency

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources is proposing to sell four more state land tracts to the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation without competitive bidding. The proposals continue a pattern. AHFC closed on more than 600 acres statewide in September 2025, using $8.5 million in expiring federal funds to spur housing development. DNR's filings do not guarantee these specific tracts will be built out.

Two parcels sit near Ester in the Fairbanks North Star Borough, including a roughly 220-acre tract in the Rosie Creek Subdivision. The others are near Seward and Anchor Point in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. The Division of Mining, Land and Water issued all four notices July 29 and July 30.

Comments on the Ester parcels are due by 4:30 p.m. Sept. 1. Comments on the Seward and Anchor Point parcels are due by 4:30 p.m. Sept. 2.

All four proceed under AS 38.05.810, a state law that allows land disposal for public and charitable use rather than a sealed-bid auction. A fifth AHFC proposal, near the Cheri Lakes Subdivision, remains open for comment until Aug. 31.
