Cordova names 15 businesses on its delinquent sales tax list and 37 that never filed

Cordova posted a public notice Friday naming 15 businesses with outstanding sales tax due and 37 that filed no returns.

The delinquent list names Cordova Bar & Cordova Café, How Brewed, Jen's, Meadow Cottage Bakery, Powder House, Prism Optical, Tiedeman Construction and Turnagain Marine Construction, among others; the non-filed list spans seafood processors, fire protection contractors, guide services and special-event licenses. Tiedeman Construction and Centralia Holdings LLC appear on both lists. Reasons given: five late fees, four non payments, four missing exemption proofs, two underpayments.

Publishing the names is itself the enforcement step, citing Cordova code sections 5.40.150 and 5.40.120. Unpaid tax draws a 10% penalty the first month, 5% more each following month up to 20%, plus 15% annual interest. The city's sales tax page says: "Within 90 days of the delinquent date, a sales tax lien will be filed on the real and personal property of the business/owner."

Cordova ran these lists in September 2020, March 2023 and twice in 2025. All license holders must file quarterly, even with no revenue.
