Coast Guard, NOAA and TSA inspect cargo at Anchorage's Port of Alaska
Coast Guard members from Sector Western Alaska and U.S. Coast Guard Arctic inspected cargo at the Port of Alaska in Anchorage alongside National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Transportation Security Administration personnel, the Coast Guard said in a post last week.
The Coast Guard called it a multi-agency strike force operation. It said the inspections were meant to promote the safe and lawful movement of goods and strengthen security across the maritime transportation system, and that protecting a port of this size "can't be done alone."
The port handled about 5.5 million tons of fuel and cargo in 2025, and roughly 90% of liquid fuel shipped into Southcentral Alaska passes through it, according to the Port of Alaska. The port also says it handles half of all freight shipped into the state.
The post did not give the operation's date or say whether inspectors found violations or took enforcement action.
