Mayor LaFrance faces a campaign-finance hearing over her 2024 expenditure reports

Anchorage Mayor Suzanne LaFrance faces a state campaign-finance hearing Wednesday over a complaint about how her 2024 campaign reported its spending. The Alaska Public Offices Commission accepted the complaint last October and has listed it as pending ever since, about ten months.

John Gimarc, an Anchorage resident, alleges in a sworn complaint that LaFrance's mayoral campaign reported 89 expenditures incompletely or inaccurately. He calculates the fines could total roughly $2.2 million, but that figure is his own arithmetic, not a commission finding. State law caps the penalty at $50 a day per continuing violation, and stops the clock once a complaint is filed.

No response from LaFrance appears in the complaint file.

For a sense of scale: when APOC actually found this June that Assembly Member George Martinez had misused campaign funds, calling the violation "particularly egregious," it imposed the maximum penalty, about $5,306.
