Anchorage's new disaster plan has been in force since June

A revised plan governing how Anchorage prepares for, responds to, and recovers from disasters is now in force, replacing every earlier emergency operations plan the Municipality has adopted.

Mayor Suzanne LaFrance promulgated the 2026 Comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan under Anchorage Municipal Code 3.80 and Alaska Statute 26.23.060. The Municipality's Office of Emergency Management lists the plan as current and updated in June 2026. State law requires each political subdivision to maintain a written disaster plan.

Anchorage has recorded five declared local emergencies since 2018, according to the memorandum. The update brings the Municipality "into compliance with national accreditation standards in several areas of emergency management," LaFrance wrote in the memorandum, and meets the requirements of the National Incident Management System.

The memorandum does not itemize what changed, saying only that the plan underwent "a substantial review and update" and "streamlines the emergency management process." The full text is on the Office of Emergency Management's website.
