Anchorage Assembly weighs 2027 budget priorities, two appointments

The Anchorage Assembly meets Tuesday, Sept. 15, to take up three administrative items, led by a Budget Advisory Commission resolution setting policy priorities for the fiscal year 2027 municipal budget.

That resolution reaches the Assembly through Assembly Information Memorandum No. 146-2026, prepared by Amanda K. Moser of the Office of Management and Budget, approved by OMB Director Ona R. Brause, concurred in by Municipal Manager William D. Falsey and submitted by Mayor Suzanne LaFrance. It is offered for consideration rather than for a vote.

LaFrance is also asking members to confirm two appointments. Cisco Mercado would fill vacant Seat 11 on the Sister Cities Commission, a term expiring Oct. 14, 2027. Katherine Cooper would fill vacant Seat 7 on the Budget Advisory Commission, the body behind the 2027 priorities resolution, through June 30, 2029.

The fiscal backdrop is tight. Assembly member Erin Baldwin Day said in January, "The muni is doing a lot more with less dollars at this point."
