Anchorage board weighs dropping a shared-driveway rule for two Lake Otis lots

Two hillside lots off Lake Otis Parkway could be freed from a rule requiring them to share a single driveway, under a request the Anchorage Platting Board takes up Tuesday night. Either way, neither lot would get to pull directly onto Lake Otis itself.

Property owners Gregory and Geeta Kolean want the board to drop a plat note forcing the two lots, at 12651 Lake Otis Parkway, to share one driveway. Planning staff back the request, saying the shared-driveway note is unnecessary because other restrictions already bar the lots from accessing Lake Otis Parkway. Traffic engineers, meanwhile, want one of the lots to reach the road network through neighboring Merganser Avenue instead — an arrangement flagged in a 2019 city memo that pointed to two unimproved access points on the property.

The city mailed 142 notices about the hearing and got no public comments back. The board meets at 6:30 pm in the Loussac Library's Assembly Chambers.
