Anchorage Assembly to vote Aug. 4 on up to $1.16M Eklutna disposal deal

Eagle River Brush and Stump Disposal Contract

Eagle River road crews would get a place to dump brush and stumps under a disposal contract the Anchorage Assembly is scheduled to vote on Tuesday, Aug. 4. Anchorage received one bid, from Eklutna Inc., when bids opened June 23.

The Public Works Department recommends an indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract. That means the municipality orders the work as needed rather than in a fixed quantity. Eklutna Inc. bid $8 per cubic yard for unusable organic material, an estimated 25,000 cubic yards, and $18 per cubic yard for trees and stumps, an estimated 5,000 cubic yards. Those prices cap the first 12 months at $290,000. Three optional one-year renewals at the same unit prices would bring the total to no more than $1.16 million if all are exercised. Each renewal requires mutual consent of both parties and lawful appropriation of funds.

Under the contract, Eklutna Inc. would provide a lawful disposal site inside the Chugiak-Birchwood-Eagle River Rural Road Service Area. The site would take organic material, trees and stumps generated by Eagle River Street Maintenance operations. The contract guarantees no minimum or maximum quantity, and the funding is non-encumbered, subject to appropriation.

This is the second recently covered service-area procurement to draw a single bid. Alaska News previously covered a year-round road maintenance contract for the same area that the Assembly was scheduled to vote on June 23, with McKenna Brothers Paving recommended as the only bidder.
