An Anchorage company keeps the heat and power on at NIH's Bethesda campus

An Anchorage company is doing the work that keeps the National Institutes of Health running. Treon Support Services JV won $5,910,302 from NIH to upgrade ventilation at the central utility plant on the agency's Bethesda campus, the plant that supplies heating, cooling and power to the buildings where NIH runs its laboratories and its research hospital.

This is phases 2 and 3, so the work is already underway. The contract runs through June 1, 2027. NIH awarded it without competition, as an 8(a) sole source with one offer received, under the program that sets aside federal work for disadvantaged firms. Federal records list Treon as a joint venture certified by the Small Business Administration and owned by an Alaska Native corporation.

It is embedded in that campus. Treon already holds $4,429,777 in NIH work covering preventive maintenance at the same utility plant and a trolley crane system in Building 11. On the same day the ventilation contract came through, NIH gave the company another $12,558 to rent gas cylinders at that same building through the end of the month.

Together the awards run to about $10.35 million, from the machinery that heats a federal research campus down to the cylinders in one of its buildings.
