Alina Rubeo is scheduled to take office as Wasilla mayor Monday, Oct. 19, according to the City of Wasilla election calendar. She succeeds Mayor Glenda D. Ledford, who was term-limited.

Rubeo won the Oct. 6 mayor's race with 585 votes, or 67.2%, clearing the 40% needed to avoid a Nov. 10 runoff. David S. Wilson received 186 votes and Stu Graham got 100. The city counted 874 ballots, a turnout of 11% of its 8,105 registered voters.

The Wasilla City Council certified the results Wednesday, Oct. 14, after the Canvass Board reviewed provisional, absentee and questioned ballots.

In the council races, Bruce Webb, the only candidate for Seat C, won that seat. Incumbent Ian Crafton kept Seat D, defeating David Seals 421 to 370. The two will take their oaths and be seated Oct. 26 at 6 pm in the Council Chambers at Wasilla City Hall. Rubeo, Webb and Crafton will all serve terms running through October 2029.

Rubeo's move to the mayor's office leaves her Council Seat F vacant. The council has begun discussing how to fill it and hopes to do so before the holidays, Alaska News reported Oct. 15.
