Alaska's labor board needs a public member, a job of 15 to 20 days a year

One of the two public seats on the board that decides Alaska's public-sector labor disputes sits empty, and the state is taking applications to fill it.

Applicants must have a background in labor relations. The seat is unpaid. The state's board record puts the work at 15 to 20 days a year, two semi-annual meetings plus hearings around Alaska.

The governor appoints the six members and the Legislature confirms them, two each from management, labor and the general public. The vacant seat's term runs to March 1, 2029.

Emily Jackson-Hall chairs the board in the remaining public seat; her term expires in 2028. Hearings go to three-member panels that must each include a public member.

The Alaska Labor Relations Agency certifies and decertifies employee representatives, hears unfair labor practice charges, complaints that an employer or union broke bargaining law, and enforces collective bargaining agreements.
