AFN extends 2026 convention resolutions deadline to Aug. 28

The Alaska Federation of Natives has extended the deadline for 2026 convention resolutions by one week, giving delegates until Friday, Aug. 28 to bring statewide issues before the October gathering.

The original deadline was Aug. 21.

Delegates can submit resolutions by email at [email protected], by fax at 907-276-7989, or by mail to 3000 A Street, Suite 210, Anchorage, AK 99503.

Only recognized Alaska Native delegates or members in good standing may submit. Resolutions from the First Alaskans Elders and Youth Conference follow the same process.

Each resolution must address one issue of statewide or broader significance and include a one-paragraph problem statement.

Funding requests must go to the AFN Board or to a regional or local organization in consultation with the sponsor. The resolutions committee may refer requests for legal action. Divisive issues, endorsements, commendations and recognition also go to the Board.

Some AFN leaders say the statewide-significance rule crowds out local concerns, and that routing resolutions to the Board reduces delegates' control over the outcome.

Delegates passed 42 resolutions in 2025.

The 60th annual convention opens Oct. 22 at the Dena'ina Civic and Convention Center in Anchorage.
