ADF&G: King salmon closures in effect on Eagle River, Campbell Creek
Anchorage-area anglers face king salmon closures and gear restrictions on two Southcentral streams this weekend, with the Campbell Creek youth-only fishery opening the last Saturday and Sunday in June under a catch-and-release-only rule for kings.
Emergency orders are ADF&G's primary in-season tool for changing seasons, bag limits, and gear rules. The department advises anglers to check its emergency-order page before fishing because regulations can change on short notice.
The entire Eagle River drainage is closed to king salmon sport fishing under an order effective May 1. Anglers fishing Eagle River are limited to one unbaited, single-hook artificial lure with a hook gap of one-half inch or less. On Campbell Creek, king salmon retention is prohibited during the youth-only fishery between Dimond Boulevard and the Old Seward Highway; the same single-hook, no-bait rule applies across the full Campbell Creek drainage through July 31. The youth fishery's king salmon restriction is catch-and-release only.
Separately, fishing for rainbow trout on Chester and Campbell creeks opened June 15, and both systems were stocked this week, with fishing expected to be good. Anglers should also review advisory announcements and the 2026 Southcentral Alaska Sport Fishing Regulations Summary booklet for the area they plan to fish before heading out.
