The next glacial lake outburst flood is on its way. If you live, work, or travel near the Mendenhall River, the time to prepare is now. Take a close look at these locations. If you recognize your neighborhood, workplace, school, or daily route, this risk applies to you.

Stay safe and stay away from the evacuation advisory area. Preparing can make all the difference. Make a plan for your household, including pets. Know where you'll go. What you'll take, and be ready to evacuate if directed.

Our community is preparing too. Local, state, federal, and tribal partners are monitoring conditions, strengthening temporary flood barriers, and positioning resources to help reduce impacts. These measures can help reduce flooding, but taking action now is the best way to protect yourself. Stay off and away from the temporary flood barriers, especially during a flood event. Doing so helps protect both you and emergency responders.
