Juneau clerk certifies 1% seasonal sales tax petition, Assembly has 45 days to act
The City and Borough of Juneau Municipal Clerk certified a citizen initiative petition for a 1% seasonal sales tax Thursday, starting a 45-day window for the Assembly to enact similar legislation or send the measure to voters.
Mr. Brooks? Here.
Madam Mayor? Here. And did you call Ms. Adkisson? Because she's there too. Ms. Adkisson?
Yep, I am, and I'm here still. Then I'm bringing Ms. Wall over.
All right. Present. Thank you. And I will look out for Assemblymember Hughes-Scandies, Mr. Steininger, and Ms. Hall. Hall is here.
Can you see me? Oh, thank you.
Okay, I know Mr. Steiner said he might be a couple minutes late, so we'll proceed onward. Um, Madam Manager, do you have any agenda changes? No. See no changes to the agenda. We'll consider the agenda approved.
Moving on to the consent agenda, is there any public requests for consent agenda changes other than ordinances for introduction?
Seeing nothing, we'll go to the assembly. Is there any assembly request for consent agenda changes?
Seeing none, Mr. Smith.
Thank you, Madam Mayor. I move the consent agenda as presented. Uh, thank you, Mr. Smith. Um, any objections to the consent agenda Being approved. Seeing none, it is approved.
With that, we will go to public participation on non-agenda items. Madam Manager. Just for— thank you, Mayor Weldon.
Um, um, my, my apologies. I, I was gonna— I had a question about the, uh, consent agenda, but all the items are consent agenda items. Sorry, I misread that. No worries.
So we will go back and go— we had 3 resolutions on our consent agenda, one for declaring a local emergency for the glacier outburst flood, another appropriating $3.5 million for school roof repairs, and another resolution supporting the homeporting of two major United States Coast Guard cutters, including the CGC Storis. And those all just passed. So now we're moving to public participation on non-agenda items. We do have one person signed up. Please bring over Ms. Fisher.
And Ms. Fisher, if you're online, please raise your hand. I do not see you in the attendees.
I do not see her online. Okay, then we're moving on. Staff report. Who is giving this one? Madam Manager or Madam Attorney?
I believe Madam Clerk is giving the staff report. Madam Clerk. Yes, I would be happy to. We have certified the 1% seasonal sales tax initiative petition, so we forwarded that off on Friday to the Assembly to notify them of the 45 days if they would like to enact similar legislation. And then we received the mill rate cap initiative petition back to our office, and we are currently reviewing signatures and started that work yesterday.
Thank you for all your work, because I do know that that is time-consuming to go through all those signatures. So with that, thank you. Any assembly comments or questions?
Seeing none, this is a short meeting. We are adjourned. Thank you all for coming at noon.
Y'all have a good afternoon. You too.
