Position Statement: Representing the North Slope and Northwest Arctic has given me the opportunity to turn our district's priorities into action.
I have worked on issues that are central to Alaska's economy, including responsible resource development, education funding, and protecting essential jobs and industries. I was raised by an educator, and it was her dedication to shepherding our language and culture to the next generation that inspired my passion for public service. I know the importance of education in bringing our communities together and setting the direction of our future. Ensuring students and educators have the resources they need to succeed will always be one of my top priorities. Our people use subsistence hunting to sustain ourselves physically and to connect with the traditions of our ancestors.
Sustaining that lifestyle means investing in the people that carry it forward. I will continue working to ensure our communities have access to the financial resources to rebuild community buildings and construct much-needed infrastructure. I support the responsible development of our resources. Our district provides wealth for all of Alaska, and our people have proven to be responsible stewards of these resources. We must support resource development that increases community revenues.
Our schools, roads, and public systems rely on it. The North Slope and Northwest Arctic need serious investment to address the threat of erosion, high energy costs, and lacking public safety presence. I will continue advocating on these crucial issues and make sure the state serves all Alaskans. Including those in our most remote communities.
