As the number one ranking legislator in the 40 member House of Representatives next year I will be well positioned to fight back against urban districts and that constantly try to steal our funding. There are only four rural districts and the only way to overcome 36 urban votes is to occupy influential positions. As the co chair of the powerful Finance Committee, I have a proven record of sticking up for rural Alaska.
I've stopped attempts to destroy rural Alaska's electric assistance program. If this were dismantled, then every rural household would pay upwards of $3,500 more per year for electricity. In the Finance Committee I got the full $3,800 PFD into the House budget. The Senate put a $1,000 PFD into their budget and it ended up at $1,200. Despite this, I will keep fighting.
My position on finance puts us in the best position for future success like in 2022 when I secured the largest ever PFD totaling $3,284. In a major win, I secured funding to start the Alaska Heating Assistance Program. This could get many rural families over $4,000 and is paid out like the PFD. I fully funded the Senior Benefits Program to pay our elders $3,000 and I am fighting to get subsistence seats on the Board of Fish so families can put food on the table while living a traditional lifestyle. It has been an honor serving you and I would appreciate your vote to continue fighting for affordability in rural Alaska.
