So with that, I'm going to pass it back to John Bohan, Chief CIP Engineer from the City and Borough of Juneau, to provide an update on the Phase 1 reconstruction. Great, thank you, Ashley. Um, before I do that, I wanted to make sure that I really conveyed our immense appreciation and gratification for the Army Corps. Um, without them, we would not have— we would have 2 pumps in Juneau capable of pumping water from behind the Hesco flood barriers. So they have basically stripped all of their resources from the Lower 48, and also working on acquiring additional pumps outside of what their normal resources are to provide us the number of pumps we need to work to pump behind the HESCOs to work on keeping the, keeping the water that does percolate through at bay.
The City and Borough of Juneau has nearly doubled its evacuation advisory area ahead of the annual Mendenhall glacier outburst flood, covering just over 1,900 residences this year versus roughly 1,000 last year. Officials say HESCO barriers are complete but warn the system is fragile and urge all residents in the zone to evacuate.
