Washout closes Cummings Road in Delta Junction through July 4

A washout closed Cummings Road between mileposts 1 and 2 in Delta Junction on Thursday, cutting off access for residents and travelers who rely on that stretch.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities issued a high-importance alert through the Alaska 511 system. The closure began at approximately 8:31 p.m. on July 2. Maintenance and Operations crews are en route. The alert lists a closure end time of 8 p.m. on July 4, 2026.

The road has seen weather-related access problems before. City council minutes from January 2022 noted that residents maintain sections of the road themselves and that unusual weather had made it impassable at that time.
