Bluesky posts allege ICE arrests in Fairbanks; reports unverified

Reports of federal immigration agents working in downtown Fairbanks spread across social media at the end of July, and one post pointed readers to an ACLU of Alaska immigration reporting form. None of the accounts has been independently verified.

The organization says on its immigrants' rights page that immigrants face heightened risk of detention and deportation, including people lawfully present in the United States. "Communities across the state are experiencing increased raids and arrests of immigrants and refugees, tearing families apart and causing lasting harm," the page says.

Family Reports One Fairbanks Detention

A Fairbanks resident was detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement while driving to a grocery store and is being held in Washington state, according to family members quoted in a public Facebook post.

Unconfirmed Reports From Downtown

A post published Friday by the Bluesky account @ptarmageddon.bsky.social said ICE was active in downtown Fairbanks as of 7 a.m. that morning. It described nine or more male agents in ball caps and plaid flannel or dark jackets, along with dark SUVs.

A separate post published Saturday by the Bluesky account @akchikky.bsky.social carried a broader summary. It said there were credible reports that ICE detained someone in Fairbanks on Thursday, July 30, and another person at 8:30 a.m. the next day during a traffic stop near a Fairbanks grocery store. That post also said agents had been staging in the downtown federal building parking lot around 7 a.m. on both days and were seen driving SUVs around town. None of those accounts has been independently verified. The post urged witnesses to film agents and record license plates, badge numbers, and the time and place.

ICE describes at-large arrests, including vehicle stops, as core lawful tools for locating removable noncitizens.
