Three placer mining applications filed near Trapper Creek

The Alaska Department of Natural Resources received three placer mining applications for the Yentna Mining District near Trapper Creek in late May and early June. One is an amendment to an existing operation.

Doug Perry filed an application for mechanical placer mining on Peters Creek through December 31, 2026. The public comment deadline for that application passed May 20. A second application, APMA A20262971, seeks approval for mining on Long Creek. A third application, APMA A20253040 Amendment #1, requests an amendment to an existing operation on Cottonwood Creek.

The notices are public notices and requests for information for the department's review and approval of the applications.

Alaska News previously covered a wave of 24 placer mining applications for Interior Alaska gold districts and four new operations proposed near Central and Chicken. The state has also advanced permits for graphite drilling near Nome and granted a public easement through state land in Trapper Creek.

The applications include requests for miscellaneous land use permits, plan of operations approvals, and reclamation plan approvals. Questions about the applications can be directed to Sara Church at the Division of Mining, Land and Water's Fairbanks office.
