Assembly to Set Meeting on Sterling Service Area Petition

Sterling residents who want to tax themselves for recreation services will get a chance to speak for or against the idea. The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly meets Tuesday, Aug. 4, to set a time and place for that public meeting on Citizen Service Area Petition 2026-01, which would create the Sterling Recreation Service Area.

The item does not decide whether to establish the service area. It only schedules when residents can speak favoring or opposing it. Assembly President Ryan Tunseth sponsored the scheduling item.

The item first goes to the Policies and Procedures Committee, which meets at 4 p.m. at the Kenai Peninsula College Kachemak Bay Campus in Homer. Attachments include a proposed boundary map.

The scheduling item sits on the assembly's consent agenda for its 6 p.m. meeting in Homer the same day. Remote participation is available through Zoom.
