Alaska proposes an 18-year, no-rent lease of Chenega Bay Airport land to the FAA, with comment closing Thursday

Alaska is proposing to lease Chenega Bay Airport land to the Federal Aviation Administration for 18 years at no annual rent. Comments are due by 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27.

The lease, ADA-09752, covers an electrical junction box and underground lines powering an off-airport automated weather observing system, or AWOS. The application is filed under a statute letting the department grant the lease without competition.

Comments go to Harrison Bivins, Aviation Leasing, PO Box 196900, Anchorage 99519, (907) 269-0740. The department will send its decision only to those who comment in writing and include a return address.

Chenega Bay Airport sits on Evans Island in Prince William Sound. An earlier department notice, posted in December 2022, described the land as held in trust for the Chenega and Chugach Corporations.

The notice carries no parcel description.
