State proposes five-year extension for Yakutat Airport hangar lease

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities is accepting public comments through May 27 on a proposal to extend a private aircraft hangar lease at Yakutat Airport for five more years.

The lease covers 13,628 square feet at Lot 1, Block 4 of the airport. Greg Dierick, the current leaseholder, applied to extend the lease through February 1, 2026. Annual rent is $2,957.28. The hangar is used for private aircraft storage and maintenance.

Under state law, the department can grant lease extensions without competitive bidding. The agency will review all written comments received by 4:30 p.m. on May 27 before deciding whether to approve the extension.

Only people who submit written comments will receive notification of the department's decision. Comments must include a return address.

The department reserves the right to reject any or all comments and to correct technical defects in the lease terms.
