Sitka land trust seeks no parking minimum for three-lot housing split
The Sitka Community Land Trust wants no off-street parking required and three lots smaller than city code allows at 1306 Halibut Point Road. Randy Hughey filed the requests for the trust, which says the changes would make the project feasible and fit more housing on the site.
The Sitka Planning Commission is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the requests at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Harrigan Centennial Hall. A major zoning variance would cut required parking from two spaces to zero. A platting variance would reduce minimum lot width from 80 feet to 43 feet and minimum lot size from 6,000 square feet to 4,000 square feet. A third request would create three lots in the R-2 multifamily district. The Sitka Community Development Corporation owns the property.
Alaska cities are debating whether parking mandates and lot-size rules constrain housing. Testimony is limited to three minutes. Comments can be sent to the Planning Office at 100 Lincoln Street.
