Sinkhole closes left lane on New Seward Hwy northbound near MP 117 through August 24

A sinkhole has closed the left northbound lane on the New Seward Highway near mile marker 117, with Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities crews running drainage maintenance around the clock through August 24.

The closure began at 8:47 a.m. Thursday and is scheduled to lift at 8:49 a.m. August 24. Crews are working 24 hours a day, seven days a week for the duration. The department classifies the event as major severity.
