Republican Dan Sager files for Alaska House District 18
House District 18 in North Anchorage now has a Republican challenger. Dan Sager filed his official candidate statement Friday, setting up a race against Democratic incumbent Cliff Groh in the August 18 primary and November 4 general election.
Dan Sager, 39, lives in Government Hill and works as a territory sales manager in the building materials industry. He has served on the Anchorage Housing, Homeless and Neighborhood Development Commission since 2023 and owns and manages several rental properties. Born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Sager has lived in Alaska for a total of 13 years, residing in Anchorage from 2010 to 2017 and again from 2019 to the present. He married last year and welcomed his first child, Liberty, in May.
Sager frames the high cost of living and underinvestment in public services as the core of his campaign. "The high cost of living, coupled with underinvestment in infrastructure and education, has pushed too many families to move outside while making it harder for those that remain to make ends meet," Sager said. His proposed answer is resource-based: "Alaska is a resource state, and we need to leverage our natural resources to fund essential state services, create high-paying jobs for Alaskans, and grow the economy."
Groh has represented District 18 since winning the seat in 2022. Sager's candidate statement was provided and paid for in accordance with AS 15.58.030 and 6 AAC 25.690 and is not endorsed by the Division of Elections.
