Petersburg planning commission recommends rezoning two open-space lots for mobile homes, 5-1

Two borough-owned open-space lots near Skylark Park could be converted to mobile-home development lots if the Petersburg Borough Assembly approves a rezoning the Petersburg Borough Planning Commission recommended Tuesday on a 5-1 vote. The recommendation is not final; the Assembly must still decide whether to approve it.

The commission voted to recommend approval, with conditions, of a rezoning of Government Lots 26 and 27, totaling roughly 7.4 acres, for single-family mobile home use. Assembly approval would add buildable housing lots available for sale. Commissioners noted the area has already seen earlier rezonings reduce nearby open-space recreational land, including Lot GL 14 and Government Lot 21, which were rezoned away from open-space recreational for the same large development. There was no public testimony on the rezoning item itself.

A community member participating by phone raised caution about the combined scale. She said GL-26 and GL-27 together with the previously rezoned parcels could yield as many as 85 mobile home sites.
